Assertiveness
is saying one's opinion clearly. I went to a guest
speaker's presentation on Assertiveness. During the
presentation, I did three games. First, I did,
"Introductions + The Ball Game". It is a game in
which a ball is thrown and received, saying another
student's name. It forced us to remember other
students' names. Then, I did "Two Communication
Skills Game." In this game, we paraphrased what our
group members said. In other words, in this game,
we listened to the opinions of others and repeated
them. Finally, I did "Clear Communication Game".
The object of this game was to describe a picture
to my partner, and my partner had to try to
reproduce it as accurately as possible. Through
these games, I learned how to speak clearly and
loudly. In my opinion people should learn to be
assertive.
Clear
Speech is Important

In
my opinion, communicating clearly is important. I
learned that Canadians value assertiveness. But,
some people, including Japanese dislike
assertiveness. On January 23, 2001, a guest speaker
came to my Experiential Studies class. He said it's
important to use clear communication. Some people
are ashamed to say their opinions too plainly. But,
some people think it is important to practice clear
communication, have a positive attitude and
self-confidence.
