In front of my grandmother's house, there was a kind of park where many children could go and play whetever they wanted to. We liked to play there.

Memories of My Grandmother

Myeong Ok Lee from Korea

I'm filled with childhood memories. I spent my childhood with my grandmother, who had four sons and three daughters. She was very kind and loyal to me. Whatever I wanted to do, she did it. When I was five years old, my grandmother, who was the best grandmother in the world, lived with my family.

At the time, my father had a business, and my mother had to help him. That's why I had to spend all day long with my grandmother. My house, which was located in the middle of the quiet town, was big and had a big garden. I played with my grandmother under a shade tree, counting numbers and singing songs.

One time when she went some place without telling me, I rebuked her. She really spoiled me because I was the youngest in the family. She treated me like a princess who was not well trained.

I have another funny memory of her. She used to smoke cigarettes that she rolled herself in a piece of newspaper. When she was not home, I decided to try the same. I rolled a piece of newspaper without tobacco inside. Then I lit that roll and tried to smoke it. It burned quickly all the way up to my nose. I was so embarrassed. Even now, my family talks about that incident.
