Love Across Cultures: Honduras
Jacqueline Ortez from Honduras
In Honduras, we celebrate Velentine's Day on February 14th. The table is decorated with a red tablecloth, flowers, and all that the mind imagines.
Love is the most important feeling that moves the world. If you have love, you can live better and do a lot of things like work, study, and realize your potential. In my case, when I have someone to love, everything I do, I do perfectly; I donít know how, but itís true.
In my country of Honduras, we celebrate Valentineís Day on February 14th. Usually the women prepare a special dinner with a good wine. The table is decorated with a red tablecloth, flowers, and all that the mind imagines.
The young people canít go on dates in my country. Some people kiss each other in public, but itís not acceptable for most of the people because that is something special that they should do in private.
A man shows his interest in a woman in a special way, like talking with her parents, thinking about the future together, and giving her respect and a place in his life and his familyís life.
When I was very young I received a special gift from my boyfriend. He sent a taxi to my house. The driver brought me a note from my boyfriend that said he was waiting for me in the Mandador Restaurant, and I should come as soon as possible.
When I arrived, he was waiting impatiently for me. He was very handsome, and we entered inside and he had reserved a table for us. He gave me a special gift and we had the best time of our lives together that day.
I love life, I love all my family and friends, and I think that love is the motor that moves the world!
