Viktualien

Germany
has some very nice markets all over the country as
well as all year round. For example, Munich
(München) has a great market place near the
Town Hall. That market is called Viktualien
Markt.
I
have known this market for a very long time, but I
have never gone shopping there even though I have
walked through the market and had lunch at the
beergarden right in the center of it.
However,
just a couple of weeks ago, I visited my family
with my mother-in-law who had never been in Munich
before. That was a very good opportunity for me,
first to show her the market and second to go
shopping.

This
market consists of many stalls, where you can buy
fresh vegetables, fruits, cheeses, meat, ham,
salami, sausages, wine, fresh flowers, and dried
flowers.
The
owners of the stalls present their food in a very
decorative way, so that you involuntarily stop
right in front of each one and just look at the
food.
All
of the sales assistants let you sample what you
would like to try as long as you don't overdo it.
Once you start shopping, you can't stop.
The
market is great. Every owner, salesperson, sales
assistant, and even the customers are very friendly
and helpful. It is
open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. till 6:00
p.m., Saturday from 8:00 a.m. till 4
p.m.
Whenever
I go back to Munich, I will make sure that I go and
shop at the Viktualien Markt. Furthermore, I
will make sure that I have a traditional cold meal
which is called Brotzeit, that includes the
food I mentioned above.
